While we place a huge amount of importance on the design, function and comfort of our products, sustainability is also at the heart of what we do. A consideration at every step, we have put processes in place in order to be as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible, and strive to continue to make improvements as and when we can. If you’d like to find out more about Sheepers and sustainability, read on…
Our Sheepskin
Of course the main material that we work with is sheepskin, which is used through all of our slippers, many of our baby products and home and living collection too. Our sheepskin is sourced from farmers and is a by-product of meat production. This means that sheep are not bred specifically for the purpose of producing sheepskins, and there is no waste product.
Our sheepskin suppliers are all regulated to ensure that any materials are sourced in an ethical way. We believe that mulesing (a method used on sheep to create smoother skin that won’t collect moisture) is cruel and we do not work with farmers that choose to mutilate their herd.
While we choose to use sheepskin because of its amazing benefits, we also use it due to the fact that it is 100% biodegradable. In the instance that it does get thrown away, it won’t sit in landfill for years on end, unlike something made from synthetic materials.
Our Approach to Waste
We use offcuts wherever possible and we never bulk buy our materials. A great example of this is if you compare two of our pairs of slippers – let’s use a rose gold pair as an example. While we ensure we match each slipper within a pair, you may notice that if you put two separate pairs side by side, one may be slightly darker than the other, due to our use of offcuts to make our slippers as sustainable as possible.
Our Packaging
We are proud to say that our packaging is 100% recyclable and biodegradable. From the offset it was important to us to find a packaging option that represented our brand and everything that we stand for, and for us environmentally friendly packaging was a must.
Sheepers Lifespan
Our sheepskin slippers are designed to last and we provide care advice to help you look after your slippers, to get the most wear out of them possible. This reduces demand, as when your slippers last, you don’t need to keep replacing them, and so less waste is generated and your carbon footprint is reduced.
Our Future Promise
Sustainability is at the forefront of our business and we will continue to make it a priority. Where possible, we will continue to make changes as and when they become viable options, and we aim to keep up with technology and other advances that may allow us to become even more environmentally friendly.
